they have the wrong strategy to win atm

Their customer service is pretty lousy (treated me lousy), geek squad is a rip off and online competition is enough for me to give them the red thumb.
Recs
Even with their competitive mobile unit (which i use and like) and just don't see this company staying around with the likes of amazon
Recs
Electronics is moving more towards Internet-based sales. Store overhead will hold them back.
Recs
Too much Brick & Mortar for the current use.

I used to be a fan of BBY (I even worked at one for a short time in college), but their current customer base is people with more money than sense. They have a limited selection of PC parts and peripherals, their prices are 20-40% higher than you'd find on sites like Amazon or Newegg, and their customer service is not very good. The only reason I'd go to a Best Buy now is to hold something in my hand (if they carry it) before I decide to purchase it online.
Recs
The high-margin flat panel days are SOOOOO OVER. There's nothing left to sell that has reasonable margins, and BBY is being beat up by Amazon, Newegg, etc. Today's price, 1 year from now, will be a 52-week high.
Recs
Best buy: the place where I sometimes go to check out electronics before I buy them from amazon. In my opinion they seem to thrive off of unknowing consumers who fall for their arguments that monster cables are worth the money, that a 3 year service agreement costing half the price of a computer is worth the money and that we all need geeks to make things work for us. This short is a bet on the growth of technological knowledge in America over the next decade: we are no longer stupid enough to fall for BBY.
Recs
Poorly managed, and just bleeding money over the long haul...
Recs
*Outdated business model.
*Not well positioned for the coming years.
*Consumers will look more towards online retailers
Recs
It's not just Amazon vs. Best Buy, it's Amazon, WalMart, Target and Costco vs. Best Buy. It used to be the cheap place to get electronics, but not anymore now that all those other players are in that market.
Recs
Bricks & mortar business, and too late to change it's direction to anything meaningful.
Recs
sooo much inventory competing with cheaper amazon and Wal-Mart!
Recs
This place is terrible. When it boils down to it: if people feel like they are getting cheated by ignorant "sales people" they aren't going to shop at Best Buy.

Haven't been a fan of BBY's for several years as oth a Consumer as well as a major supplier of theirs. have not had a good experience with the Blue Shirts in their stores, and generally avoid shopping there if I can find it online or at another retailers.

I can't help thinking of Sears Holdings, another troubled retail giant with more problems than solutions. While Best Buy’s decision to close some underperforming U.K. stores may not be as dramatic as Sears' 100-plus domestic store closures, it could be the tip of a Sears-esque iceberg of shuttering windows. Looking back a bit further, I see the ghost of Montgomery Ward, which went out of business after a few disappointing holiday shopping seasons. Super-efficient stores killed Ward's; e-tailers will destroy Best Buy.

Under perform because specialty big box stores (electronics) will not be able to compete with Walmart, CostCo, Target, Amazon and maybe Sears. It's all about cost and prices you can offer to customers. People shop at Walmart, Target, and CostCo because people usually buy more groceries during the week than electronics, and when they do buy electronics..it's more convenient to do so at the same store they get their groceries. Amazon will deteriorate Best Buy's margins because I have the option of getting a PS3 from Best Buy for $250 online, or Amazon for an average price of $215..the free market rules Amazon and people generally list products with the intent of getting rid of it..Sears will also eat away at Best Buy because Sears, I perceive, is better marketed as the place to go for appliances. So, the only consumer that I see keeping Best Buy in business is the one who needs their tech toys now ..doesn't care about price, and can't wait a week for it to arrive from Amazon..or they go their because it isn't available from Walmart, CostCo, or Target

This is tracking porfortlio of the the 20 stock I pick for 2012...

I'm short against this one in the long term. They have a healthy FCF, but B&M stores can't function as places for customers to just see the merchandise in person.
Even if this gets bought out, where will the brand go? Emerging markets is a possibility, where the number of middle-class consumers is growing. However then BBY is fighting against local brands.
No, the long-term story here is much the same of most B&M's that aren't clothing/apparel: fade into the darkness.

didn't know they were sitting on so much cash...
