Cardionet (BEAT)

CAPS Rating:
***

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

No real competition in space yet (BHRT will bring a product in the next 6 months). Reimbursement code of $1100 per 12 day period already approved. Millions of patients worldwide need this monitoring.

Everyone's excited about this stock since shares were made available. Momentum will carry it for a while, then we'll re-evaluate.

I am new to this, so here goes.

In a randomized 300 patient, 17 center trial the company reports that in comparison of LOOP monitoring (Holter monitoring) verses cardionets MCOT monitoring the incident of patients experiancing significant AFIB events was captured 23% of the time with MCOT vs 8% with loop.

In those patients with asymptomatic AFIB events, MCOT captured these events 17% vs 0% with LOOP.

In those patients with presyncope/syncope MCOT captured these events 52% of the time vs 16% with LOOP.

In symptomatic AFIB / Flutter 24% for MCOT vs 2% LOOP

In asymptomatic AFIB 19% MCOT vs 0% LOOP_

If I understand the companies web site, they are offering continual monitoring of the patient which would explain why they are able to return such superior results. Event reviews are sent via daily reports to the physicians via the physicians choice of FAX or Internet. Urgent and/or emergent events are sent to physician immediatly. At tthe end of the monitoring service period, (apparently consisting of 21 days of monitoring) the physician receives a complete EOS summery report.

I have not reviewed any financial reportsw for this company in any detail, as I do not feel that I am as strong in this area as I would like to be, so I will leave that up to other better versed then I in financials. However, as an newbe investor that has worked in the medical field for 20+ years that has also worn the LOOP (halter monitors) in the past, I can see where this would be looked at very favorably by the cardiologists at a minimum.

Initial cap investment on the part of the practice ZERO, ZIP, NIL...

which will be attractive to physicians. The idea of their patients being monitored on a "real time basis" or presumably as close to real time as possable would seem to be very attractive. Add all this to the fact that LOOP cardiac monitoring has been around for such a long, long time without any real improvments (and obviously limited ability to actually capture significant events ) would make this in MHO a very attractive investment for the long hall.

Thank you for your time, sorry this is so long. FOOL ON
