As a Coloradan I am betting on Colorado companies that I am familiar with Ball has alway been a performer.

A company that is expanding and will continue to grow

Great diversity; plastics are life right now.

As long as there are businesses, there will be a need for packaging. Ball has been around for ever, and I don't think they're about to fold.
Moreover, the company is one of a very few (if not the only) companies that produce an entire line of home canning materials. the present state of food prices would seem to indicate that we may see a not insignificant increase in home gardening and the preservation of the produce derived therefrom.
Bush will need fancy packaging for his economic stimulus plan.
every presidential candidate will need tons of packaging to preserve any sense of dignity and intelligence over the coming year.

This is a great pick; They have all the diversification necessary to survive a rough market. There is alot of money being pumped into the research and development area of government military. This has been a good stock, just at a slump right now (Buy low-sell when the profit-taking is good).
Recs
it's diversified within itself.

actually, i have seen better fundamentals ,but this company is still doing well, and if we have this much talked about slowdown in the economy, this company should benefit from lower costs on goods, which should translate to better earnings .

There is a Ball factory in my home town. When i drive past it and consistently see new capacity being added as well as now hiring signs hung almost constantly i think they are going to be growing for awhile.

It has wheels to roll just give it time.
90% of wheels need ball bearings.
Buy this stock on the dips. It may be the only stock you ever purchase that rolls uphill.

Good defense stock.

I stumbled upon this company on accident, and I could hardly believe that the same company that made the mason jars I used to drink tea out of has diversifed into... sattelite equipment, of all things. This company has been around forever, has excellent leadership, and - I can't get enough of this - Now makes satellite equipment. Invest in this one for the long term, and make profits from mason jars and the proliferation of spacecraft. =P

PROFIT
Recs
Ball Corporation is composed of two divisions: beverage containers and aerospace. Both have suffered in the past two years as the company goes through industry down cycles, growing pains as the company expands, rising raw material costs, and other such typical factors. Management has capably navigated these troubles and is likely headed for excellent gains over the next few years.

Great space program, packaging is oversold next year
Recs
Solid company with a 3 year 10% profit growth. Lots of technical savvy. Should continue with predictable growth.
Recs
There are better entry points (I bought at $35.51 Jun06), but at $41 BLL remains undervalued. Historically, most years you can pick it up for a P/E of 11, which with TTM earnings of $2.85 suggests a low-30's entry for the patient investor...but P/E often peaks near 20, so BLL has some room to run from here. Debt is high, but manageable, with interest only 20% of operating income. ROE about 30%. BLL's can & aerospace businesses seem an odd combination, but they're making it work.
