It is my firm belief that the majority of large cap companies in high stakes sectors like petrol have too much to lose to get bitten twice by the kind of thing that happened this year in one decade. Take Exxon in the 80s. They'll be on extra good behavior for at least another 10 years. But the market will undervalue it for another 3. That's about the memory lifespan of your typical professional investor.

Selling calls against my stock the whole long, slow way up. Looking to sell calls a month or two out, at strikes about 7-10% over the current stock price at the time.

BP or should i say the Anglo Iranian oil company has been around a long long long time - not that it's too old to fail...but it's seen worse...much worse...and even then (think the first over throw of the shaw when Iran could have had democracy) - it still managed to get the yanks to play by its rules. Very big and profitable company who has also been doing its best to clean up the spill ...will come back...study your history...

It may take a year or two, but BP will come back to historical norms, it just makes too much money not to. While massive lawsuits will be settled due to the oil spill, I don't think it will be enough to take this company down. The future cash flows are just too great for it to be valued as low as it is today.

Overpriced. May not feel full legal brunt of spill for 10 years, but sure to at least take a hit from tougher govt. oversight and forced better, less corner-cutting practices.

The gulf of Mexico spill coupled with the many lies that have been issued out by BP spokesmen is going to keep taking a turn for the worst. In the longterm they will go back up, but in the next few weeks, They will be close to their 52 week low.

it was a planned inside job. BP is going down... cleanup costs and payouts will sink the company... and the UK & US pensioners that banked their retirement on it.

If it sinks quickly rather than slowly it could cause a financial tsunami that would make the Bears Stearns wave of pain seem as scary as one of those big dumpers at the beach that knocks the kiddies over.

This is a turn-around if I have ever seen one. Currently trading at about half of it's expected average, and going up. It lost a lot of money. Have they lost all of their oil? No, but it will probably take them a while to get back on track. Still, I would like to ride these guys all the way up to the top.

BP is slowing the bullying. They are giving into claims with less abandon and scrutinizing them more carefully. This will leave them with extra revenue gained from assest sales. Since BP doesn't utilize all of its fields and capital at one time, these sales are unlikely to effect its short term production and they can reinvest the left over capital. They won't be hurt as bad as some people expect, and they have enough capital that they won't go belly up either. They are undervalued right now and thus will beat the market, if not return to their $60/share price anytime soon.

This stock has been beaten down 50% already. The gulf spill mess will be history sooner than we know it and the company will go back to solid earnings. This stock can easily double from here.

Beaten down after the oil spill, but with a rich history of paying a juicy dividend. I'm picking this one up for the discount on the dividend alone.

BP has over $50 billion in cash, receivables, and short term investments. That's a good thing for BP because it will go through hell for the next 20 years. Why would any country trust BP? Contract cancellations will hurt BP's bottom line for years. XOM, COP, and RDS are better alternatives to this POS.

The November 2010 midterm election will determine how fast BP appreciates in value. I am not making any political statements here, but the tide can change if the congress is shaken a bit. Don't know what's going to happen politically, but things do change, and sometimes very dramatically.

The ineptitude of the previous management was horrible. That gulf spill should never have happened.

Morality aside, the stock is priced as if BP is going out of business. I do not believe it is. Its cash flow, while dented, is still strong. The payouts associated with the disaster will be spread out over years and years, giving them time to make improvements, sell off non-core assets and recover. They're too well diversified globally. Plus, when they re-institute that big dividend, the pension plans and income funds will snap it back up, causing a sustained pop.

Company should not go out of business unless the government forces them out.
