Showed up on a screen for solid 5 year growth with low debt, cash on hand and still at attractive P/E ratios.

I see a cup with handle, 3 consecutive quarters of earnings growth (though not accelerated growth) and 3 consecutive years of growth. Britain on the verge of a depression? Tough times could be good for this co. as it pushes its rolling cigarettes as cheaper alternative. Owns Drum brand as well as discount loose tabac.

There is less momentum, less volume, and less buying going on. We are in the last part of this rally.

The 1929-1930 equity rally (coming out of The Great Depression) lasted 147 days and the market was up 46%. It has been the same amount of time since the March, 2009 low and we are up about the same percentage. It’s déjà vu (paramnesia), so prepare for a drop of about the same percentage (85%).

Seeing room for a pop- people still going to smoke no matter what country, what religon, what anything... Tobacco will continue--- It as old as the indians back in early settlings, and as vast as the vikings..

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that even during a really long and nasty recession, people are going to keep smoking.
If they do, these guys keep paying their 5% dividend and slowly racking up CAPS points.

Check out the chart for the last 8 years. This one keeps going up.

Owns Cohiba will explode if trade restrictions ever dropped with Cuba. Enclosure movement happening in developing world like in Europe during Industrial revolution / and America during Guilded and Progressive eras. Millions moving to cities, increasing incomes, growing middle classes. 50% of men smoke in China similiar numbers in most of developing world. Fastest growest segment of smokers in China are young women between 18-early twenties, hook them young. Peasants will drop crappy domestic smokes and puff away on good ole American and British tobacco products. The money trains that are MO / ITY / BTI will keep chugging along at steady clip.

Look at the ten year and especially the five year chart on this. This is a bellwether stock. Bought this stock in 2002, I think. Based on my purchase price, my dividend yield is over 10%! It just keeps chugging along, selling cigarettes all over the world except in the US. No point in giving all those profits up to a bunch of legal gravytrainers.

I've never seen a straighter trend-line that BIT's for the last 5 yrs. It jets right through 300%. That's an average of 60% a year for the last 5yrs. They're P/E is very reasonable at 18.43 (google), and they're been growing every year since.
The world is going to keep smoking their cigarettes, cigars, hookahs, and pipes well into the next century.
This is a stock I own.

It's P/E is high for the industry, but it's EPS is also well above average. Look at that list cigarette companies. I don't know what people smoke internationally but Kool is huge in America. So it's not Camel or Marlboro, but that just means it has market share to earn. If we are in a recession, a lot of smokers are going to be stressed out (aka buy another half a pack a day).
Besides BTI has a VERY strong track record. Take a look at their charts for the last 5y and your going to see a trend line heading straight through 300%; currently it's hanging a bit below that. I believe it's going to bounce back up to that line with the coming summer. It's outperformed DJI by ~10% a year for the last 5y. I see good management to blame for it.

Idealist US admins are great a running business sectors to other countries: Carter with a grain embargo; Gore with tobacco. BTI in 140 countries, where everybody smokes. It' later than I'd like, but not too late.
