The developing world needs inexpensive energy. Coal is the least expensive.

Coal as a commodity is getting so cheap while the price of natural gas has risen significantly in the past near. Energy companies will soon shift back to the cheaper option which will be coal. Additionally china and India, coals two largest consumers are growing their economies at record paces and will need more energy ie coal. Peabody has well positioned itself with operations in the US and Australia to take advantage of all thes factors. If they have another huge surprise this quarter I'd expect to see that translated to a pleasent price move up for the stock.

Recent sell off has been overdone. This stock is an excellent value based on its discount to book value and the outlook for a recovery in coal. It and its peers are taking capacity out of the market that will help shore up pricing very soon.

BTU has major plus's over it's peers in their ability to contract coal to China, India and Austalia. The company is able to move forward now to send coal to these countries without many changes to the SOP of PTU.

like they always say how much lower can it (coal) go. lol. I might hold off on this one in the real world, but for the game I say go for it. I would probably take all large market cap coal companies long. research it but they have clearly been crushed so is worth a speculative play

Bought today at 20.79. they say coal is dead...hopefully it will eventually die but not quite yet. The shorts have gotten too comfy sitting on these dogs for too long. Day traders like tickers like JRCC and ANR but I will stick to a more reliable player in the space even though BTU is pretty levered up themselves.

This is a long play. Company is poised for international growth, and has adjusted quickly to market changes. Would like to see them pay down some debt in the future.

I bought BTU off of my I Phone where it was going up (3/19/12). Immediately it reversed and within a month it had dropped 29%. This type of experience is why I have switched to MF instead of my own ideas.

An export deal with KMP will help the company capitalize on the growing global demand for coal as natural gas prices in Europe stay higher than coal prices. It's operations in Australia will help it capitalize on the quickly growing Asian markets. Subsidies from the Obama administration will help alleviate costs associated with EPA guidelines.

With the elections over, and President Obama's clear distaste for coal, Peabody Energy Corp stands to be an unfortunate victim in his quest for green energy sources.

I think coal has bottomed because it trails nat gas prices which are off their lows. BTU and JOY are nicely undervalued even at today's low coal prices because they produce good earnings and cash flow. Imagine if coal regains price per kJ parity with nat gas...
