I like the optionality in this stock. Electic vehicles are a necessity in eco-challenged China. Solar provides the opportunity to reduce pollution. More than that, this is a bet on leadership. At this price there seems to be plenty of upside.

Combination of solar, electric vehicles and batteries along with the innovation and drive of the CEO Wang Chuan-Fu almost guarantees this will be a clean tech winner.

The all electric car market is questionable at best. People say they want great mileage but as soon as gas prices fall they want powerful engines. Also electric do not deliver great range.This uncertainty along with lack of infrastructure (charging stations) is a big negative.Hybrids are not doing that well either but will rule for short term. marty

tremendous upside

Munger called this company a "damn miracle" at the BRK shareholders meeting in 2009. The Monday after the meeting the stock shot up 30% and I missed it. I have been waiting for a good entry point every since. That day has finally arrived. Thank you Mr. Market. I knew it was only a matter of time. BRK still owns 10% and all systems are go for BYD to achieve the chariman's goal of becoming the world's largest car company (YES, that is his goal) over the coarse of the next two decades. This ride will be very enjoyable for investors.

picking on the dip, sell on any pop

Very aggressive management, low debt and a strong foothold in an established and profitable industry makes this one attractive to me. As the Rule Breakers point out, it's not without its significant risks (mainly, strong competition and a few missed promises), but this isn't a startup company. Yet, it is currently at a startup's price.

BYD may plunge again (and again) in the near-term, but i believe in the prospects of this company 5 years from now and beyond. i'm a little concerned they're spreading the pb&j thin with all the ventures, though

Drinkable battery acid. Why isn't "Powerade" in on this?

Great company with a great future. Assuming a leadership position in "green" energy in China. Already a leader in manufacture of rechargeable batteries for electronic devices and using this technological knowledge to market hybrid and all electric vehicles. Also producing batteries for storage of solar panels.

No wonder Buffett boght 10% of company and looking to buy more.

Lithium Ion is the future

One of the largest Cadmium/Lithium battery manufacturers in the world producing electric cars now will have giant footprint in this market.
