CAPS Rating:
**

A Bank holding company, provides financial services to its customers through two subsidiaries: Camden National Bank provides traditional commercial and consumer financial services and Acadia Trust, N.A. provides trust and investment management services.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

Camden National has successfully acquired and integrated United Bank of Bangor (purchased 1995) and Kingfield Savings Bank (purchased 1999). They merged these two banks in 2000 and integrated them under the Camden National banner in 2006. This slow and steady growth style has served them well and I expect will continue to work in the future. They also own a full service brokerage firm called Acadia Financial Consultants. This is an ambitious sideline, unusual for a small bank in Maine. CAC has offices in locations where wealthy retirees come to live. Management seems confident about growth shown by a 9.1% dividend increase announced a few weeks ago. I expect to see steady growth in this corporation. On the other hand they may be an attractive target for a buyout by a large national bank over the next 5 years.
