“Say Canon!” Canon, Inc. founded in late 30’s, is a global multimedia corporation providing world-renowned copy machines, printers and cameras. The company segregates its products into there main groups i.e. Business machines, Cameras, and Optical and other products. The Business machines segment offers office imaging products, computer peripherals and business information products and accounts for around 65 percent of the over all revenues. On the other hand, its Camera’s segment includes the growing digital single-lens reflex cameras and compact digital cameras, also helps in providing some stability to its top-line. Canon has a strong hold in domestic Japanese market, however it is the American and European market that provides the bulk of the inflows.
The company amidst of the signs of US economy slowdown and rising tensions in the Korean Peninsula is still witnessing a strong performance. Its revenues are up, backed by the rise in sales of digital cameras and laser beam printers, while margins are also having a positive impact due to cost-reduction efforts. The global demand for digital cameras in the coming years is expect to see high double-digit growth, with digital photo printing estimated to be a major driver, taking the market to over $4 billion. Adding to the above, the rapidly growing Asian market with low penetration rate, is likely to provide the much needed push.
Canon’s stock price recently saw a marginal fall, with its announcement of buying out Toshiba’s stake in the joint venture to produce SED television. The television is expected to release in the second half of 2007. The new television is anticipated to be the next generation technology for television, which is most likely to hit the bulls eye and the complete stake in the venture might prove to be a right move. Adding to it, the launch of new entry level A- Series digital camera can act as major revenue drivers. Moreover the release of new imageRUNNER for the mid and small sized business will further impel the growing inflows from multifunctional products. Considering the growing margins and strong industry outlook, Canon is all set to see a growing trend in 2007 also.

Canon has been riding the digital camera wave that will start tapering off soon. It's copier and printer businesses are not growth areas, but should earn steady profits. The real excitement is products Canon hasn't sold yet: SED TV.
We are at the front end of an HD and digital TV wave that will probably replace all the set currently installed and more. Canon and Toshiba have teamed up to develop a new flat panel technology that should be cheaper, sharper, higher contrast and consume less power than current plasma and LCD TVs. They should be on the market in time for the China Olympics.
An ultra-conservative DCF shows a value of 62.75. (See http://www.quicken.com/investments/seceval/?p=CAJ&cmetric=intrinsic).

Proven quality, supplies most other printer makers.

Top player in digital imaging, cameras, video, printers, etc. Just try any of their products. Not sidetracked into entertainment like, regretfully, Sony.
