Casey's has an experienced leadership team at the helm of this convenience store chain, a nice competitive advantage as it focuses on small towns in the Midwest (less/no competition in those smaller markets), and it still has expansion opportunities in its current markets and in newer states like Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, and potentially Ohio and Michigan. This will carry growth, and online/mobile ordering, pizza delivery, and 24-hour stores should help boost comps in the meantime. I like the stock's odds of beating the market over the next 5+ years. Outperform.

Impressive net income gain on a slight decrease in revenue(due to low gasoline prices). Company is expanding prepared food business where they make their highest margins. Primarily located in Midwest with a lot of room to grow. Vertical integration in their supply chain will continue to benefit company and lower costs in the future.

CASY was entered on CAPs at $117.37. The PE ratio was 20.85.

The Company has stores in only 14 states. It is going to be fun to watch them add stores to those 14 states. It will be a while before they enter the next one most likely. They could quickly move into a new state through an acquisition, but they will do this only if it makes sense to do so. With their new distribution center in Terre Haute Indiana, they will be able to grow their presence in Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee where they have very few stores. Acquisitions are rare in this industry when gas prices are low. Even stations that are doing poorly are unlikely to sell in an environment when it is the easiest time to make money – when gas prices are low. But growth in new states isn’t important at this point because they have so much room to grow in the 14 states where they currently have a presence.

CASY is concentrating on making their existing 1,904 stores more profitable, by adding delivery services to them. They are also transitioning their stores to the new 24-hour format. Lower gas prices has helped CASY sell not only more gas, but more food and merchandise. Margins have improved for each of their three business categories. Lower gas prices and lower commodity costs, especially for cheese has helped margins improve significantly.

This place is growing like crazy, and because of their locations, i think even if their fuel sales fall, people are going to want to "eat out" there. Plus, their pizza is pretty good, and I'm not the only one that loves pizze!

Casey's is well managed and growing steadily. Its new distribution center, opening Feb 2016, will allow the company to expand into the Southeast and eastern Kentucky and Tennessee. Online ordering is launching soon, which should boost pizza sales. And while gas prices stay low, stores should attract traffic to then spend on high-margin prepared foods.

Casey's operates convenience stores in 14 Midwestern states, according to Morningstar.com. Which kind of surprised me, since living here in SW Missouri I've seen them grow...and grow...and grow. The fact they only operate in 14 states is a pleasant surprise, because I've seen so many pop up in new places.

CAPS lists CASY's dividend growth rate at 16.81% for 5 years. The last quarterly payout of $0.22 went ex-div 7/30/15, and represents another boost of 10%, up from $0.20 previously. There will be many, many more.

5 years ago the quarterly payout was $0.10. Although this payout has more than doubled in the last 5 years and has been increased for 15 consecutive years, the payout ratio still sits at only 18%.

Lots of room to grow. And grow they have. I've been watching.

Only 14 states so far?
Payout ratio of only 18%? ....What????
15 years of dividend growth...and they're just getting started.

Wow. Both Morningstar.com and CAPS lists a beta of only 0.39.

Let me illustrate what that means. Wild swings in the market don't produce wild swings in CASY's share price. You get steady, consistent growth more tied to actual business growth and less tied to the erratic behavior of the irrational herd.

It won't shoot up as much as the market when the market surges, but it won't crash when the market swoons, either.

Go to the CAPS scorecard for CASY. There are 3 pages listing over 200 active picks going back as far as 8/28/2006. Scan through all of these, and you'll find not one single green thumb pick in the red as I write this, NOT ONE!

Is that cool or what?

Back to Morningstar.com, where I see that gross margin is at a 10-year high at 18.5%.

Net income was $117M in 2010.
Net income for fiscal year 2015 was $181M.

Earnings per share for 2010 was $2.29.
Earnings per share for fiscal year 2015 was $4.62.

CASY hasn't bought back any shares in the past couple years, but in 2010 they had 51M shares outstanding...today they have 39M.

All this is only an overview. I could write much, much, more...all of it good.

Go to the CAPS "ratios" page for CASY. Look at net margin, gross margin, return on assets,...look at these. CAPS gives you these figures both for the trailing 12 months and the 5-year average.

The trailing 12 months earnings per share grew 81.2% from the trailing 12 months earnings per share from a year ago. That's there, too.

The 5-year earnings per share growth rate is 14.76%.

Can't go wrong with this.

Here's one more thing. Read this.

Still a small footprint with a huge runway. Growing fast with a P/E of about 23 and earnings growth of 41%. Looks to be a great long-term winner.

Already an active pick for me in Motley Fool Stock Advisor -- typing this in now just because I mentioned it in conjunction with my Rule Breaker Investing podcast today as a stock I like for the next 3+ years. CAPS is about accountability! Also, kind of fun and interesting in that the market has been getting beat up over the past 10 days. Outperform.
