Central Garden and Pet is selling near its 52 week high. The share price is 1.5 times book value, which is significantly above typical p/bv ratios that prevailed over the last 10 years. Ignoring its gigantic asset impairment last year, its returns on… More

This company does two things. First, pet products....wonderfully economically insensitive, as people love their pets regardless of GDP growth. This provides a solid base - but I admit, we approach a 52 week high. Second thing, lawn care. Lawn care is tied to the housing market, which you might have noticed has mildly underperformed over the past two years. But we're starting to climb out of that hole, shown by the S&P/Case-Shiller Index rising the past three months. As the housing market recovers, people are going to return to caring for their lawns. Or maybe I'm wrong, they'll flush their fish down the toilet and start to rent an apartment. We'll see.

I believe this stock will double over the next three months as fuel prices rise and people stay home to repair or do asthectic work on their homes, and many people will begin to grow vegetable gardens, etc. Even though this stock showed a second quarter loss in the month of June 2008, I am convinced this stock will do a complete turnaround.
