Went up too fast, bouncing off upper trendline, will go long and outperform after correction in a few weeks.

CHK is a gas company and gas prices suck. Not much hope for a turn around before Nov and maybe 1-2 years before most of their shale plays are economic again. Meanwhile leases will expire and they will continue to sell assets to stay afloat. Management seems less that trustworthy. Find an oil producer.

Just glancing at the info on both sides of the fence, doesn't look like a safe place for my $$$. CEO concerns, tons of debt, not much cash, and prices not set to turn around for a while. On a personal note, Chesapeake came into the Barnett Shale in TX and paid millions for Nat Gas rights, only to have the bottom fall out a few months later...that's got to hurt their bottom line.

One of the dumbest CEO + boards in the world. Stock may go up for a while, but if he stays it will eventually crash and burn.

When I lived in Oklahoma City 10 years ago I had never heard the name Chesapeake. Went home for Christmas and now their name is everywhere. Fancy campuses, company apartments, rowing clubhouse. They top the donor list on all charitable/cultural events. Friends that work there talk about their team growing from 3 to 50 in a few years.

In short, they grew like, and throw money around like one of the high-flying tech companies during the tech boom. But this is not a new industry that typically supports this kind of amazing growth. Nat gas is pretty mature, has been around a while. Of the employees I asked about it, they all loved the company, but had no idea how it had achieved its growth story.

So my BSometer is going off pretty strongly here. Could be that I am off-base, but I would advise anyone looking to invest to make sure they fully understand where the money is coming from.

Their balance sheet is pretty ugly, which is probably part of the story. Fund amazing growth via debt. It's possible that financing their way towards control of nat gas market will pay off for them if nat gas takes off, but it would appear that they are staking their business on it.

This company is about to go under. Poor management and low oil prices is drowning it.

Company has been spending money like a drunken sailor on shore leave. They buy up anything and everything that interests them. Now that natural gas prices have gone south, company will have to sell assets to survive. Asset sales will come at a time of low gas prices. All this could results in tight cash squeeze for company leading to earnings per share losses.

I wish it weren't so. Company leaders lack common sense, it appears.

Ugh... has to raise cash at exactly the wrong time! The CEO obviously can't manage his personal finances, so there's little surprise that he's mismanages his company's finances as well.

Massive dilution... shedding assets for pennies on the dollar... I feel for the existing shareholders.

The US will start converting cas and trucks to Nat. Gas. It's been a sucessful all over the world. This will greatly increase demand. The conversion kit is cheap. Nat. Gas is the only real replacement for oil in auto's and truck that is available now. it's a proven tech.

I don't like their balance sheet. Seems like they have more debt than assets to cover it. Bad credit market will probably hurt them short term.
