It may be in a bit of a slump, but there will always be a place for a company like this in the oil field.

Like the stock at this price despite the higher PE. It has a great long term outlook and there has been some recent insider buying.

Looks as though it has hit its lowest point since about last Sept. I think now is a great time to buy this stock and hold long.

High return on capital, high cash flow, and return of excess cash to shareholders. Buying in on july 25 2014 near 52 week low is an opportunity for long term investors. Can ride on US shale oil development and can serve as a hedge against oil price increase from the rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, Eastern Europe and the Far East.

These guys are just down on timing issues. CLB is a methodical, data driven company that allows oil/gas E&P's to extract the maximum amount of value out of their assets. They're a consulting firm with a treasure trove of data and experience that they can leverage to their advantage and this shows in their best of class ROIC and lack of a true competitor. Trillons of dollars stand to be made over the next 20-30 years as we race to develop and utilize fossil fuels to unleash worldwide economic growth - these guys stand in the thick of the energy renaissance and hold an enviable position that directly adds dollars to oil producers top and ultimately bottom line.

Key services to oil industry. Wide moat. Great margins and ROE. Shares down 27% on guidance. Expect rebound.

A play on the scientific side of oil and natural gas extraction. A mass of intellectual property gives CLB a nice competitive advantage. Buying on the dip.

I'm going long on this and here's why: Core Labs has patented sampling technology in high demand for hyrdaulic fracking. Their earnings misses are due to a tertiary market factors such as the maturation of the Marcellus, Bakken, Niobrara and Eagle Ford Shales, and I believe a slow down in overall fracking operations. These more mature fields require less geologic sampling to map the drill sites and thus the demand for CLB services has declined. Other issues impacting fracking firms are shortages in fracksand and other raw materials which have put start dates for planned wells, behind.
This being said CLB has a number of diverse geographies such as the south central Oklahoma, the Spraberry/Wolfcamp, Codell, Parkman, and the Tuscaloosa Marine Shale, including deep water drilling still in play or in the early stages of development as Casey Hoerth recently pointed out. I believe Casey's assertion that fracking companies have elected not to push hard to bring these fields on line, under the current market conditions, is correct.
In the end, CLB's stock is taking a hit for no other reason than a slow down in revenue which I attribute to normal market factors that will naturally correct themselves and are not due to internal management, business model, or any other internal factors. With the recent dips in price this stock is attractive and over the short term may take some further dips but look for it to rebound over the long term.

This company is best in class and it has growing potential as oil companies rely on its services more and more. When oil exploration goes into harder-to-reach spots, companies turn to Core Labs to figure out exactly where to drill and which method to use. This makes their service integral, especially as companies turn to deepwater drilling.

Brought to my attention by the TMF service, but I've been looking for a general oil play that's not directly a driller, rig, or transportation company. I like that they're leeching off of the oil industry like... well, like the oil industry leeches off of all of us drivers.

A very high PE but earnings have also increased every year for at least 7 years. Expect it to double in 5 years or less. Watch closely for a mistake which would be severely punished.
