Oversold and shorted; regardless of what happens with Casablanca, steel will still be made in the Great Lakes region and since CLF controls the lowest cost mines and shipping in that market, they will be shipping. Pricing, however, will be set by world markets but China will recover more quickly & robustly than the doomsayers predict.

I'd like to see a history of what the biggest underperformers in the S&P500 do in subsequent 1 and 2 year periods after the year of lowest returns.

Low trailing P/E. Low P/Bk. Reasonably low debt to equity. Low EV/EBITDA. Good dividend with low dividend payout ratio.

Has emerged from rough year with a well capitalized balance sheet that positions it to have great run if iron ore prices stay decent. Great value buy currently trading at very low multiples

Had a horrible year but it looks like they're turning the corner. Nice yield too.

Successful cost reduction measures, improving ore prices, and a generally oversold stock.

The market is acting as though this company is dead. Meanwhile, steel and coal are simply exhibiting typical industry cyclicality. However, the irrational frenzy continues . . . CLF is currently the most % shorted stock of the S&P 500 (25% of the float). For a stock trading at 0.6x book value and using minimal leverage. CLF has already taken abundant writedowns ($1.1 billion in 2012), so that's not a risk. There's a lot of volatility with this stock; expect to see a classic short squeeze.

I really think is more likely to get to $30.00 then to $10.00, even that the shorts are betting on the stock to go down.

market overreaction to Gold bringing this stock down to ridiculous levels. Patience is a virtue moving forward (although I'm sure many have thought that months ago.)

At current levels Cliffs is a buy. I agree with JPM that the negativity around iron ore, China growth, and North America are overblown. It needed a good lesson and got one, but they threw all issues in during the last quarterly earnings call. It won't be straight up, but it's time for this ship to stabilize and move up.
