Comcast Corp (CMCSA)

CAPS Rating:
**

A cable operator in the United States and offers a variety of consumer entertainment and communication products and services.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other players to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

I'm bullish on Comcast for a number of reasons at this price.

First, despite all the fears about competition, Comcast is thus far winning the war for the living room. For every 1 basic cable sub they lose to the telcos, they're gaining 2 telephone subs, give or take. And from what I understand, m...More

Comcast services are much too expensive. They will not be able to maintain those prices, given the competition (and better prices) of the satellite-companies, FiOS and the recent FCC-approval of a rule that would ban exclusive agreements that cable TV operators have with appartment buildings (we are...More

I am ready to dump Comcast cable and video for FIOS. The service is absolutely awful and everyone I speak to in my neighborhood is planning the same switch. Internet connection is simply too unreliable.

Large, diversified company but it won't take much of a consumer movement to scare investors. As FIOS and other options roll out people who have been locked into a monopoly will switch.

I think Comcast gets a bad break with the stocks, I look for them to consistenly turn profits and hopefully that'll translate to an upswing on their stock price

TechCrunch sez Comcast is looking to buy also-ran social network Plaxo. Why? MySpace has had issues with monetization. No obvious synergies with their cable or TV assets. Sign of desperation.

God, I don't envy cable companies. Having worked at CMCSA for six months, its a goddamn mess of local acquisitions and standards. You need superman like management to get around the gov't regulation, lightining-fast tech changes, and aging infrastructure.

CMCSA went fiber in most areas before it was hip, because they saw that analog cable was unreliable. Their investment is just starting to pay off as they can offer on-demand movies, 100's of HD channels, etc. Expect services and quality to go up when they soon ditch analog channels from their boxes (despite your digital box, channels under #100 are still analog, using up 80% of the line's bandwidth).

right now they're experiencing growing pains having risen to the top of the cable segment. but their coverage is across some of the wealthiest markets, and internet demand is going in one direction, and HD TV is here. Won't be a superstar stock but will appreciate faster than the S&P hands down
