I think the E Coli issue, while unfortunate and regrettable, does not reflect on the discipline and foresight engaged by the management. I believe the recent prices are a buying opportunity for long-term investors.

With the stock at an all time low, I believe it will overperform over the next five years because it is still a great company that values ethics. The e coli incidents will be forgotten about in 5 years and combining with colelge delivery, there will be even more growth.

Warnings of federal investigation and a recent company report that failed to identify causes for the food poisoning outbreaks mean that the worst is not over for Chipotle.

I own this stock and believe it has a bright long-term future, but I think this year is going to be a time of clean up from the e coli scare and it is a good year to just get comfortable with having a stake in the long-term future of this company and not expect great thing in the short-term.

Chipotle has been hammered recently due to health/sanitation fears and issues and the adverse impact these had on their sales. While this did have a strong negative impact on Q4 sales they are a brand with a very loyal following. They still have plenty of growth prospects, especially as they expand other concepts they have been testing and have plenty of room for domestic and international expansion. The company has been doing a good job of handling the recent E. Coli and norovirus outbreaks in their restaurants and ultimately, consumers will slowly forget about these outbreaks and sales growth will continue in the future.

I think it underperforms from here for a few months upto a year. I will reverse the call once it gets in the three hundreds.

Long term, I am bullish.

CMG was on a strong growth track over the last few years. They faced several headwinds over the last year. I believe three of them are worth mentioning.

Firstly, they posted weak same-store sales and earnings growth for Q3. Secondly, they were the target of a couple of investigations regarding hiring of unauthorized workers. And finally, they were at the center of a series of E. coli and Norovirus outbreaks that were widely publicized.

In my opinion, neither of the first two of these reflects poorly on the company, or management. Let's look at why:

The sluggish same-store sales growth was largely due to them ending their relationship with a key pork supplier after they discovered that the supplier had failed to adhere to the standards for ethical sourcing that they had committed to. Management took decisive action on this front, protecting the brand reputation for quality and ethical sourcing, and sending a clear message to other suppliers that such behavior would not be tolerated. That strongly decreases the chance of any future such issues.

Unfortunately, Chipotle had a difficult time finding another supplier able to provide the volume of pork needed to replace the former supplier while adhering to the production standards. They finally did so, and have successfully returned Carnitas to their menu in all markets. As far as I'm concerned, they closed the book on that one.

Second, the workers in question may have been unauthorized, but they were *not* undocumented. INS officials were able to identify some of the documents as forged, but there is no sign of an ethical breach on the part of management. Frankly, this could happen to any company, especially one that has a business focus associated with a significant immigrant community.

In combination, these two issues served to spook investors slightly, but shares retained the significant majority of their value prior to the food safety crisises.

Stacking the outbreaks on top of the other issues produced a crisis of confidence as investors fled amidst a perceived loss of consumer confidence and an increasingly volatile and often bearish overall market climate.

But let's remember a few things. Firstly, the average consumer has a demonstrated short memory (or at least pattern of avoidance) in the wake of corporate scandals, especially where actions were not willful on the part of management and there is no "principle" involved. Also, as Foolish investors, we take the long view. Shares will likely continue to suffer over the next few quarters due to overall market conditions and what will likely be weak comps over the next few quarters. But ending '16 and heading into '17, I believe CMG is poised for a strong comeback to a valuation near their prior levels, as long as there are no further major surprises. Management has taken significant measures to ensure that there will not be, at least on the food safety front. I'm on board.

A lot of opportunity for growth. Fears over the last few months have dropped the stock price to major value levels and barring continued issues with food contamination, this company will continue to shine. Outperform.

I've never really been into restaurant stocks. I never really followed Chipotle Mexican Grill with much concern. However, the E coli scare has caused a drop in share price to the point where the entire Fool community has declared the stock screaming buy. I have a hard time turning down a deal like that.
