The world's fifth largest international oil company will one day out growth the "L" for loser blazened on its forehead for the last several years. You hear it recommended by various pundits and still nothing happens to the price. It is recommended because it is financially sound and undervalued. Nasty events in the past can only keep ya down so long. If you're doing your home work, walking ole ladies across the street and generally minding your own business, goodness and light will catch up to you (and your stock holders). At least that's why I'm invested in COP.

This is an energy sector play. Nothing sophisticated - just a fundamental belief that energy prices will be higher in 2-4 years than they are now, and that companies with the resources to provide energy will be more profitable then than they are now. In the meantime, COP has a dividend yield of >4.5%.
