Replace old wasting energy bulbs is a task the world have to endure sooner than later and there is plenty of room for growth in light business for this innovative Company

LEDs account for only 1% of the lighting market. The room for growth is enormous. Incandescents are now banned, so led adoption is going to pick up. Cree is not the biggest company in this market, but they are the only pure play on LEDs and they are leading with the best led technology and innovations.

We are in the early innings of a switch in lighting, cars, homes, and outdoor, to LED, and the best products today are based on CREE technology. A flashlight that does not use their bulbs is not worth the batteries, and automotive and home lighting are not far behind.

Cree has a well known brand name. I have seen flashlights, and other devices whose manufacturers are bragging that they use Cree LEDs in their products. Consumers trust their brand.

This was the drop I was waiting for.

- CREE is the innovator in the LED lighting industry, which is a market ripe for the picking. The Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 is phasing out incandescent bulbs by 2014. This is a huge opportunity for CREE to enter the consumer market.
- The costs of LEDs are decreasing, and as the payback periods are getting shorter. The reduced energy savings (50%+) and longer replacement cycles will become clearer benefits to consumers.
- Great management, with a CEO who is an industry veteran.

I can see a future where LEDs -- with their significant energy savings and variety of functionality -- become the standard for lighting.

Currently priced based upon speculation and not in line with any compelling fundamentals. Significant operational, reputational, and employee retention issues, especially among Ph.D. researchers (the employees who drive their innovation & patents).

redo on a previous redthumb pick that was successful - now with the subsequent bounce - will look for another round of underperform vs S&P longterm.
