Curis, Inc., a drug discovery and development company, engages in the research and development of cancer therapeutics. It develops Erivedge (vismodegib) capsule, an orally-administered small molecule Hedgehog pathway inhibitor that has received FDA approval for the treatment of adults with advanced forms of basal cell carcinoma; and is in a phase II clinical trial for the treatment of patients with operable nodular basal cell carcinoma. The company also develops CUDC-101, which is under phase I expansion trial for the treatment of specific tumor types, including head and neck, non-small cell lung, breast, gastric, and liver cancers; and CUDC-907, an orally bioavailable, network-targeted small molecule that is designed to inhibit histone deacetylase and phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase.

In November 2011, the U.S. vismodegib New Drug Application (NDA) was granted priority review by the FDA. The FDA grants priority review status to products that, if approved, would address an unmet medical need or are considered to be potentially significant therapeutic advancements over existing approved therapies in the treatment, diagnosis or prevention of a disease.
The FDA has established March 8, 2012 as the action date under the Prescription Drug User Fee Act (PDUFA) to complete its review of the NDA and potentially grant marketing approval of vismodegib

This stock has huge potential on the upside ($40 per share), and relatively low risk on the downside ($.75). They have financial support from large succesful organizations such as genetech and they have many avenues and ways to attempt to end various forms of cancer. This is currently the best attempt we have at ending certain types of cancer.

has been noticed by the market as a potential takeover by big pharma

I thought I was lucky to be able to exit my green thumb on Curis with a positive score, especially after the shellacking they took last summer on the failure of GDC-0449 in colon and ovarian cancers. Then today the share price lunged upward an additional 23%, likely due to some shallow nonsense in the financial blogs about Curis being one of the best buys in biotech. Keep buying, guys. Your best chance at a positive catalyst this year is phase II data in skin cancer for GDC-0449, the same compound that sank the stock last year on phase II failures. Maybe the third time's the charm, but I wouldn't send my money it that direction. Meanwhile, their other Hedgehog signaling-based pipeline compound remain in early clinical development.

The bright prospects Curis (CRIS) has have been ignored by the major movers on Wall Street. CRIS has 3 drugs in Phase 3 trials. In two of those trials they are partnering with Genetech, which is running the trials (and is now owned by Roche). One of these trials is a 100 person pivotal trial to show the long term effectiveness of their drug designed to cure basal cell carcinoma (BCC). This same drug had a very high overall response rate in a smaller Phase 2 BCC trial . Right now this same compound is being tested in many Phase 2 trials (to trest other cancers) sponsored by the National Cancer Institute and other prestigious health providers. I am a owner of CRIS.
