I like Cisco, but at a lower price. Right now it is trading close to its 52 week high and just can't seem to break through the $30 barrier. The dividends, even at the current stock price, are attractive at .26 per share yielding 3.62% return. However, I believe it will underperform in the current year and drop to $25.50 per share for no good reason. The stock is a good pick.

Cisco is one of the few companies with a core competency of growth throng acquisition. I believe their IoT investment will pay off in the next 3-5 years, potentially huge upside

Consistent dividend growth ahead with a starting yield of 3% and significant share buybacks should drive a compounding that will outperform going forward

in negotiations now to acquire Acano a london-based company which boast an interoperable, cross platform video service - an area Cisco has been highly motivated to conquer. Cisco is investing > $700M in this acquisition.

Recent change in leadership could cause problems; jury is still out.
A lot of recent acquisitions - which could mean their internal brain trust may be running dry. If you cannot innovate yourself, then acquire innovation. Acquiring innovation is the more expensive way. Their dividend payout ratio is currently 46% - much too high for my taste, I'd like to see that halved. They've bought back billions of dollars in stock with little appreciable effect on share price. That's not what's supposed to happen with stock buybacks. But at least it cut their total dividend payout. Between the three, this company is burning money.
But, if they can successfully integrate the innovations they've been buying, this could turn out to be a 'foundation building' period for them. The problem being, how often have we heard of companies claiming their "building the foundation for future growth" for years until they auger in? Cisco hasn't actually made this claim, but their actions have.
Cisco is gathering all their ducks to become *the* cloud computing company. But everything depends on if they can line their ducks up right. I just started a small position today. I consider it risky, but potentially very rewarding in 5-10 years.

Regulated in whatever way, the Internet looks to keep on growing. With fiber optic everywhere, the switches that Cisco makes will be in ever-greater demand at the hardware level. Thee are large chunks of Earth where the Internet has not yet appeared. In those places, Cisco still has an emerging market.

I'm watching a group of 20 stocks that are predominately priced at or below fair value based on historic valuations. The portfolio has an above average starting yield of about 3.35% compared to the S&P 500's 1.95%. The portfolio is designed to replicate something I might choose in retirement in order to live off of dividends alone instead of share harvesting and was inspired by a series of articles by Chuck Carnevale. My goal is to not make any changes for at least 5 years unless a dividend is frozen, cut or, I see a golden opportunity that increases current income as well as offers a better than average chance at capital appreciation. The portfolio doesn't need to necessarily beat the market for me to be satisfied with it's performance but I expect it to competitive in both short and longer time horizons as well as generate a rising income stream.

See ya in 2020.
