I'm going back to the well with Capital Southwest. It appears to be trading at too large a discount to the value of its various holdings, perhaps as much as 60% to 70% less. I don't think that this gap will completely disappear, but it should narrow.

Combine that with modest growth in book value, say 8% or so annually and CSWC should outperform.

This is a solid investment company appropriately described as a mini Berkshire Hathaway. It is currently trading for about 70% of the value of the assets it owns, which are themselves public companies and fairly easily and transparently valued, and it has sizable insider ownership - always a good sign. To paraphrase Buffet, you can make a lot of money when you buy dollars for 70c, and that's what this company is.

CSWC has been one of the most disciplined investment companies I have ever seen.
William Thomas has had an absolutely phenominal track record. His ability to stay the coarse with his investments is truely remarkable. (check out his AT and T shares he paid nothing for....)

However, Mr. Thomas is 78 ~ and his era is soon to pass.

Taking the torch is someone who should do equally as well - but uses a different strategy....and we can see this coming out already with the investment in HLYS. CSWC announced they are going to sell an additional 60% or so of their current HLYS holdings. That will bring down their holdings to around 15% of the outstanding shares (down from nearly 40%).

I love this. The fact that HLYS was basically a "hidden" investment within CSWC.... obviously due to the uncertainty of pps staying power....

Now Martin has a nice cash load to make his mark with right from the get go.

Pharmafab investment (private company) looks to be a bad one....but in my pricing model CSWC is way undervalued with pharmafab value at 0.

This management has survived every downturn in the economy and within this sector. It was incorporated in the early 60s and has averaged double digit returns since inception.

HLYS investment was the latest move of genius...acquiring most of the company for $100,000 in cash. The company was worth a Billion Dollars at the highs of the year....and HLYS is a cash flow monster. (sure its a fad...but if you make enough money ---reinventing yourself becomes all the easier.)
CSWC dumped a large chunk of HLYS to the public in the IPO...and now is taking more chips off the table.

Bravo CSWC.
This stock deserves to trade a nice premium and yet it is discounted below NAV.....
I guess having top notch management doesnt count for anything ??????
No extra value having Thomas and Martin allocating capital for shareholders ?

Well there should be. If CSWC falters on Thomas stepping down and out....it will be a gift....as Martin is the real deal.

This stock is the eldest of all the BDCs. Founded in the early 1960s - this company has lived through the disasters within the BDC sectors during the 70s and 80s and again in the late 90s.

Excellent management. Stock is trading below NAV by a considerable amount.

Heelys investment was genius. CSWC still maintains a massive position in HLYS common stock. This investment alone is worth nearly 80% of CSWCs market cap.

Interesting set of companies -- should be selling at NAV, but there's currently a significant premium in the stock. Probably due to the upcoming Heely's IPO?

I should have bot this one below $100. This is a publically traded VC firm, but check out their portfolio holdings. Very strong, including one that owns the footwear juggernaught, Heeley's. If you have kids you will know what I mean.
