Unless something drastically changes, this is no longer a good company to work for or to own. Their services business is decent, and the fare card side has been a cash cow off and on for years, but recently it's slipped and the defense business is a mess without much of a moat to protect it from technology trends and customers that have largely made it's technology commodity.

Sales, revenue and earnings have grown consistantly over the past few years, and the share price has grown faster than the S&P.

Significant insider ownership. Strong cash flow. Recently initiated a dividend. A narrow miss on earnings for a number the company does provide gives a good entry point at a 15% drop to pick up this TMF best buy now.

This two-horned beast has a long record of giving shareholder a return on their investment. As our education system continues to fail our youth, military training will be more and more important. I also expect that a smaller US military will induce the military of other countries to expand. Further, few soldiers means more training per soldier so they are more effective. The other horn of CUB will continue to thrive as the public expects more and more automated was for the government to take our money for services. I suspect that if the Olympics come to Chicago that CUB(s) will get the ticketing franchise.

I recommend you keep your investments away. At least until it bottoms around $8 to $10, then be sure to assess the overall climate in the defense market related to simulations equipment, and funding. Also there are many competitors including BAH, L-3 Com, American Systems, etc...

Here is a super cool company. The products and services they provide are phenomenally valuable in today's information based military and transportation systems. They provide battle-field training and simulation on one side of the house. On the other side, they provide public transportation fare systems.

Their major military customer is, of course, the United States Military. They also work with allied governments (we would be really upset if they worked with non-allied governments!). In this sector, they do battle field simulation and training, gunnery simulation and air combat simulation.

Their transportation customers include the London underground, itegrating the undergound with surface public trasit. They also work with Washington D. C., New York, LA, San Francisco and others.

CUB's financials are solid. For a small-cap company, I like to see significant insider ownership (43%). They have plenty of cash and very low debt. The analysts believe that they will be growing earnings from $1.64 per share ttm to 1.97 in '09. With a p/e of 15, that's growth worth looking at in any company.

If their margins, ROI, and ROA were higher, this would be a tremendous opportunity. As it is, they don't just send out a CD and call it good, like a software company. They have to build the physical simulator or fare kiosk. But the skill required for building the physical infrastructure for their products provides them with a significant moat, at least on the military side.

This company came to my attention from a CAPS screener. I chose five star small cap companies with significant insider ownership and unanimous all-star outperforms. See my blog on my CAPS page for other companies from this screener.
