I'm adding to this defensive stock following the dip on announcement of lower revenues from their PBM division. CVS's primary business lines are relatively resistant to recessionary environments.

I am a loyal CVS customer who shops in the local store, as well as online. They have a strong line of store branded products and a great loyalty card program. After looking at the numbers and their projections, it appears that a 20% drop is an overreaction. What I expect them to gain in retail share should help to compensate for some of their contract losses. In the long term, I expect them to thrive. CVS is in my real money portfolio for the long term.

CVS will be taking over the prescription drug program where I work. Focusing on company benefits is a great strategy because it captures a customer base, drives business to retail locations and the CVS website, and generates a guaranteed fee.

Other than a quick look at CAPS, that's the extent of my research.

When you think of drug stores you think of CVS. CVS brand name items offer real value during recession. By buying up Longs they are everywhere.
