Oil companies will underperform the S&P for the remainder of the year due to everyone cutting back expenses. They may bounce back come Spring, but overall I think that a down trend in oil is in the works again.

Jubak says oil company stocks are overpriced, overbought and overdone for the short term. Long term he likes them. Intervention in the currency market is a possibility according to Treasury Secretary Paulson and Saudi Arabia sounds concerned about the recent rapid increase in the price of oil. Underperform.

Chevron appears to have entered a new stable trading range between 80 and 90 dollars a share. I don't anticipate any significant changes unless it's new oilfields come online early.

CVX has been a great ride, but I think the overall direction of oil is down for a while. Sell now and buy it back after a 20% drop. It'll be a buy at about 75.
