Fairly easy call to make. Oil should stay $60-80 range for the summer, plus they are heavey in California refineries, where gas is the most expensive.

After Tom Hanks expanation of the "blade" in the DaVinci Files, Chevron takes on new meaning. For one, management doesn't make many wrong moves at this company. Every year is a winner. It will be interesting to see how they handle the move to Alternative Energy in the transportation industry and the utilities. There aren't many fast balls you can pitch at these veterans that they can't get a hit off of. I've decided to sit in their section and enjoy the warm fuzzies of backing a winner. Pass the dividends, please.

Downside is small and there is no doubt that oil will be higher in the next several years as the world economy rebounds. In the meantime, Chevron pays a dividend that represents a 4% yield.

Cheap and plentiful oil is what makes our lives easy. The problem is that world oil production has peaked. Few of our leaders are aware of the problem or go along with the false claim that there is plenty of oil. Many claim that Saudi Arabia will just produce more if we need it.

The Saudi's are injecting millions of gallons of salt water into their oldest and largest field (Ghawar) just to stay at par. The Russians have admitted to a production plateau, and Canada has resorted to oil sands.

Mexico, our number three supplier after Canada and Saudi Arabia, is seeing production declines of near 15% per year. That will be a big problem for us because the Export Land Model shows us that within 15 years they will no longer be a net exporter.

So here is what you do. Find oil producers with lots of cash that have little exposure to resource nationalization and start buying now.

Jubak says oil company stocks are overpriced, overbought and overdone for the short term. Long term he likes them. Intervention in the currency market is a possibility according to Treasury Secretary Paulson and Saudi Arabia sounds concerned about the recent rapid increase in the price of oil. Underperform.

Another sentimental pick for me (see Ampco-Pittsburgh). I worked for CVX in San Francisco and San Ramon for 5 years and am impressed with the quality of the people who work there....nothing but the best.

Big oil, it's over. The governments where you are getting your oil want more of the money. Profits are going to go down. How can a few greedy rich men compete when nation pull out this-means-war-card.

1. Management understands that the future lies in being a Global Energy Company not an oil company and most importantly, is making the transition by positioning itself in strategic joint ventures like Cobasys through Chevron Technology Ventures.
2. Has new deep water fields in the Gulf of Mexico that should come on line this year (2007).
3. Good Balance Sheet.
4. Divendend yield beats the S&P500
5. Stock has consistently out performed the S&P500 over the past 12 months.

I think the revival of the US economy will turn inflationary and the bubble in US fixed income instruments will turn into a large sale. Both will suppress the value of USD against other currencies. Oilprice will go up.... probably by more than the CVX revenues will go down.
