Delta is looking to merge with another airline. When this happens, an already concentrated industry loses some competition which allows it to squeeze consumers, both by increasing ticket prices as well as decreasing the benefits of frequent flier programs. The regulation of airports that is coming into effect will hurt the airline industry, but in response, the increased ticket prices and lower cost to payroll (through a decreased workforce) will have Delta on the rise.

I just don't understand how big airlines keep resurrecting themselves from the dead and staying in business. I like and fly Delta as a customer but these guys aren't going to be digging themselves out of the hole anytime soon. Just run away screaming from this stock.

I think Delta will marginally outperform. They are aggressively going after the more lucrative international routes and deserve kudos for getting their heads out of bankruptcy. They have also reported strong quarterly earnings for their first reports after climbing out of the black hole. But this is the airline industry and we cannot forget the ever present fuel costs.

After bankruptcy, still don't have their act together. Higher fuel prices aren't the reason they're still in trouble, but expensive gas doesn't help.

Buffet stated that he would never invest in a travel company.

This particular one is trading at 207% intrinsic value.

I like Delta. Maybe it's because I am from Atlanta, maybe it's because I like their post bankruptcy business model, but I like Delta. Delta just emerged from bankruptcy, in which they have shed a lot of debt, and appear to be a leaner, meaner, operating machine. In addition to the financial benefits of the bankruptcy filings, they have their sights set on what I see as a strong business model. Delta wants to make itself a truly international operator. The margins are higher on international flights, and Delta is exploiting that with it's new direct routes to places like Kiev and Athens, and its recent move to get a direct route to Shanghai. The open air pact between the U.S. & EU should play an important role in helping Delta expand internationally as well. The airline industry as a whole is tough to get comfortable with, but with the somewhat near term operational and financial benefits Delta is experiencing, I like them.

I boght them when they wre in bankruptcy and made quite a tidy sum (by selling off before they emerged, of course). Delta is a hometown company that keeps Atlanta and Hartsfield Airport strong. Any company that can survive a hostile take-over threat, can emerge soundly from bankruptcy, and can still have so many frontline employees sacrificing for the company in the way they have, is most assuredly a company that knows how to survive. Even with the fuel prices increasing, with their new international routes and focus on customer service, Delta should come out a winner. We are told that air travel is booming every single day and Delta is getting ready to ride that wave. Buy Delta Air Lines - Delta is ready when you are.
