The cash for clunkers program resulted in a short-term boost in auto sales, which probably just depleted the pool of future buyers. This won’t become apparent for several months when auto sales come in much lower than expected. The immediate impact on DAN will not be felt for several months, but I suspect by early 2010, there will be talk in Congress that another CFC program is needed to boost sales again. At that point, the stock gains that DAN had enjoyed may be been mostly given back.
