One of the ways to play inflation is to either invest in companies that make things that people cannot do without such as iron (CLF, and RIO), energy and food.
The other way is to invest in companies that have a brand name and therefore have pricing power, since their brand cannot be bought anywhere else. With products like Smirnoff, Baileys, Captain Morgan, Cuervo and my personal favorite Guinness, Diageo should have little problem weathering the poor economy and inflation.

alcohol - hello
Recs
DEO is moving its quarters to Ireland, becasue it can no longer perform to profit in the UK. also the cost of shipping (which Diageo plc has no control over) is going to kill its prices annd i believe it will drop demand.

Great brands backing this one, plus appropriate for the times. They're being welcomed into emerging markets.

one word... water
Recs
This company has well-known brands (Bacardi, Guinness, etc) giving it an essentially impenetrable economic moat. It pays a good dividend and it's going to hold up well in bad economic times (people will certainly not stop drinking if times get tough).
Recs
Best alcohol stock. Largest and most solid portfolio of brands.
Recs
With top shelf brands; Tanqueray, Captain Morgan, Johnnie Walker etc. and a lock on distribution channels also increasing consumption in emerging markets, they should do fine in the long term...
Recs
It has too many profitable names to fall under.

This spirits producer/distributor helps us to celebrate all of lifes events in style. Some of the best names found behind the bar are provided by our friends at Diageo. St. Patricks day we can choose from Guiness or Bailey's. Cinco de Mayo, Jose Cuervo. Cheers to the many times, and many ways, that we can enjoy Johnnie Walker, Captain Morgan, Tanqueray, and Smirnoff

RECESSION OR NO RECESSION PEOPLE WILL ALWAYS BUY ALCOHOL. When times are good to celebrate, when times are bad to forget their troubles
Recs
The brands are loved around the world with lots of drinking growth room available for those ready to step up from hooch to quality liquor.
Recs
When a recession is looming, the housing market is frothy not just in America, but also Australia, China and Eastern Europe, and the credit markets are squeezed bone dry, you can always count on the comfort of Johnny Walker.

Just building a sin stock portfolio

Great portfolio of beers and spirits. People will always drink.

even if the world economy slows people still consume alchol. This is a safe stock in a down market with some growthpotential and a decent dividend.
Recs
Great company, great financials. Alcohol never seems to be hurtin' too bad in any economic condition. heck in recessions people actually drink more. This is an international play with a great dividend and yield around 3.6% and also I feel its intrinsic value is around $152.
