Personally, I don't eat there anymore. I'd rather go to Cracker Barrel (don't stop reading this yet, I'm a southern boy & enjoy my biscuits and gravy). Their (hopeful) aquisition (no spell check on CAPS...ARGH!!!) of Applebees is my driving force. I don't eat there anymore either. I'd rather cook my own dinner than ingest their cheese-ladden, sodium-soaked meals.
Buuuuuuut, Joe America loves them. Joe America wants a triple or even quadruple stacked cheeseburger that provides 105% of his daily caloric needs in one meal. Joe America looks forward to heading out to Happy Hour at Applebee's with his buddies from work on a Thursday. Then he 'treats' his wife + 2.3 kids to Applebees on Saturday after a long day at the mall/movies, etc. Joe America then takes his family to IHOP for breakfast/brunch (and waiting an hour) after church.
I don't eat there, but Joe America does. Joe America is going to make me money, not the 2% of families that make over $200K / year and wouldn't touch the swill.

With the new purchase of Applebee's this stock will rise.

Longterm they seem to go up each year. There are more and more people in the workforce that work graveyard shifts. IHOP caters to those of us that don't get to see much daylight. At least we can get the Sunny-side up! Pancakes and eggs aren't the only thing on the menu. There is also Free Internet in many locations. It is not uncommon to see students cramming for a test and utilizing the wonderful Wi-fi. Students (who probably aren't inclined to cook for themselves) can order a delicious well balanced meal. There prices are reasonable enough (unlike Chili's or Applebee's) that they can afford to become the absolute best type of customer, a "Regular."

Dirty & greasy, crap-for-brains management in local stores, about 15 years behind on technology and styling. Like Waffle House only with bigger buildings to maintain and without the cult following. Used to eat there a lot, but after many bad experiences and talking to many mistreated employees, I'll never set foot in one again.

Good restaurants, good homey food. Not just pancakes. After several years of staying away from them because of lousy service, I now go there for french toast for lunch and a bottomless coffee pot. Management has done good things with them.

IHOP Corp. franchises and operates family restaurant chain under the name International House of Pancakes or IHOP. The company is one of America’s best known family restaurant chains known for its award winning pancakes, omelettes and breakfast specialties. Apart from these it also offer an array of lunch, dinner and snack items through 1278 restaurants located across U.S. and Canada, with more than 99% of these operated by franchises.

The company reported an increase in its net franchise revenues and its same-store sales in the third quarter of fiscal 2006, which were driven entirely because of increase in guest traffic. This was the fifteenth consecutive quarter in which the company reported a positive same-store sales growth. The system wide restaurants also grew in the quarter reflecting the growing spread of the company. The gross margin and the operating margins of the company are well above the overall industry margins and are showing a consistent operational efficiency.

The company is determined to fundamentally shift their service philosophy from one that has been focused on efficiency and operational execution to one that centers on warm, friendly interactions with the guests. Apart from this the company is looking forward to increase the effectiveness of their media buying, so that they could reach out more guests with tempting promotional messages and bring them to their restaurants more often.

The restaurant industry is expected to grow at an annual rate of 5% and reach $537 billion in 2007. IHOP seems to be in a good stead with its unique products portfolio and initiatives taken up can help it to grab a handful portion of the attractive restaurant industry.

What's not to love? They manuevered through the "low carb" fad. Have shed the pancakes only mindset. Renovated and expanded wisely and pay a very nice dividend.
