Will someday give Disney run for its money...very creative forward thinking company that knows how to capitalize on the publics entertainment preferences and mold them.

The cost of content is clearly rising for both streaming and traditional pay-TV companies. Starz turned down $300 million in 2011, after a $30 million deal in 2008. Disputes between cable/satellite companies and content creators are in the news more and more. Netflix is dropping content left and right. I assume because the costs have risen too high.

Amazon, a cash rich company, has an intense focus on kids & family and educational programming, a niche Discovery has quite a large presence in. As Amazon grows to become a bigger rival to Netflix, the value of its content will surely rise.

Double top in january, oscillators are whispering that trend is bearish and the rally started on 20th of december is ended

Best company in downtrodden sector.
+ Net profit margin 23.31% (IND 3.86%).
+ Current Ratio 3.8 (IND 1.6).
+ ROA 8.52% (IND 2.45%)
- Normalized P/E 23 (IND 21.2) (but I'm putting less value on the P/E as a metric these days).

This may still be overvalued though. It was around 25 before the 2008 crash. Now it's around 40.

Great low cost, popular programming = outstanding profits. I've wanted this for years, but never pulled the trigger. I think now is a reasonable entry point for a company going nowhere but up in the future.

Comon who doesn't watch a Discovery Channel show now and then? With the addition of other channels and now OWN, how can this be a bad pick? Has been oversold the past few weeks after a big run up = time to buy. has a healthy balance sheet, great cash flow, and earnings are expected to double by 2013, decent P/E. This is a no brainer.

want to see their more educational lineup of channels succeed, and I think they will - more devoted following - more unique and enduring content than typical sit-com or police drama

This network is different from the run of the mill network crap on TV. It has a nitch. I forget how many countries it channels programming to. Maybe 60. I also forget how many different languages it broadcasts in. Maybe 12 or more.

Soon a new Discovery channel...only this time in 3D ! The buzz is that discovery channel together with Sony and Imax are working on something hot behind the scenes...

Industry leader and great innovative company! Soon Discovery Communications, Inc will bring 3D entertainment to homes! They are also working on a partnership with Hasbro and recently launched a partnership with Oprah Winfrey Network.

Company is also making big effotrs to increase intra-department efficiency (not good for employees but good for the company overall).

An undervalued steady stock with great assets. Not as exposed to ad spend as people think.
