DIVX has shown they can generate solid cash flows with a cash flow of $0.22 per share for the third quarter 2008, With $113 Million in cash & short term investments ($40M cash & $73M short term investments) at the end of Q3 2008 they are positioned have a lot of flexibility in dealing with operating & finance needs. With little or no long term debt they seem financially strong and well positioned. Recognizing the risk associated with a small company like this I believe their upside offers significant more promise than their downside risk.

DivX created a CODEC technology that competes free and open source software that does the same thing as well or better than DivX does it.

DivX makes a CODEC technology that competes with many others. Most notably, there are both free products (open source) as well as vendor-specific products (Apple, Microsoft) that directly compete with DivX technologies. That means nobody really needs or loves it, not the open source developer crowd, nor the proprietary crowd.

The technology is good, but there are many other MPEG4 codecs that are roughly as good, and which comply with the same standards. Honestly, I am a bit surprised these guys are still in business at all, but I am suppose they can hang in there without a big splash.

Even with the internal conflicts and messed up negotiations DivX will come through as a leader in video services and their technology which is already widely known and used by companies and consumers will continue to be successful.

DIVX will continue to drop lower and lower. It had a major crash in late November/December with a failed attempt to spin off or sale Stage6 was made. News 2 days ago of the shut down of its highly popular yet highly expensive Stage6 has already yielded a $2.00 drop. Safe bet to keep this one on the downward spiral until it finally dies completely.
