DLLR Worth a Few Bucks

Better-than-expected earnings per share (EPS) of financial services company Dollar Financial Corporation (DLLR), led Zacks financial sector analyst Neena Mishra to issue a Buy rating to the shares of the company. The following excerpts explain her position:

"DLLR reported 1Q08 (ended September 30, 2007) diluted earnings of $0.52 per share, six cents ahead of our estimates, based on stronger-than-expected growth in comparable store sales in Canada and the U.K. as well as strengthening of Canadian dollar and British pound, partly offset by higher store and regional expenses.

"The company recently acquired 82 stores in Florida, as a result of which the management raised its financial guidance for FY08. The company now expects revenue to be between $510 million and $530 million, adjusted EBITDA between $145 million and $152 million, income before taxes between $91 and $96 million, and earnings of between $2.15 per share and $2.30 per share.

"Currently, DLLR trades at 12x the consensus forward estimate (versus 13.3x at the time of our last report), a 23% premium to the peer group median (versus a 6% discount at that time). On a price-to-book basis, the shares now trade at 110% premium to the peer median, versus a 66% premium in September. However, the 110% premium looks somewhat stretched given an ROE of 84% above median (the ROE-adjusted P/B is 13% above median).

"Further since DLLR derives a significant share of its earnings from outside of the U.S., we expect the company to benefit in the coming quarters from the stronger economic trends in those countries, coupled with continued weakness in the US dollar. Our six-month price target of $33 per share equates to 14.9x our FY08 estimate.

"Based on the positive results trend and updated management guidance, we have increased our earnings estimates as well as our six-month price target. We maintain our Buy recommendation on the shares of DLLR."

Those revs get translated back to the US peso and will help to boost EPS on the company.
