A 50% one day rise on no news on an equity teetering between being taken over by the FDIC OR finding additional capital and potentially doubling is either news that leaked, or a little spurt, induced "somehow", that triggered the computer traders, day traders, speculators.....the later "wondering" if someone knows something.

I'm thinking the later...."induced" nothing going on here....

Of course if I'm wrong, this will go up by 50-100%. It could be too that nothing happens early next week, this bleeds back down and then "something" does happen within my seven day hold period...

So a little dangerous, but I banked some points on the last up spike...I'll offer them back up on a down thumb call.

Troubled bank with few assets, and the ones that are worth something might raise some temporary cash for capitalization, but would further increase losses going forward.

One week play....

DRL is obviously regrouping after suffering what many banks have suffered--writing off loans in the real estate crisis. But the company is rebuilding with a much smaller footprint.

Despite everybody hating this stock, its finally gone profitable for the first time since 2006. If it can keep up the profits they will go up big time. If only they manage to get back to book-value that would turn it into 350% gains. Especially since wall-street hates this stock (5 x underperform 0 x outperform), with only 9 % of institutional ownership left they only need to convince those institutions by keeping up the profits for me to be right with the green thumb up :)

Financial stocks carry a P/E ratio of 22.4, and the so-called "recovery" has been especially strong in bank stocks. Therefore, I’m concentrating my shorting interest in the banking sector.

This is about as bad as bad stocks go. It was bad even before the recession.

Doral Financial has somehow staved off bankruptcy so far, but that inevitability doesnt seem that far off. Doral reported massive losses in 2007 and should continue to do so for 2 years to come. Business activity is still slowly and they have massive debentures maturing soon that they will have zero chance to pay off. They have nearly 6 billion in debt and with the way they are burning cash I'd predict less than 16 months of viability left. Bankruptcy seems like their only solution. I cant see them outperforming the S&P over the next 2-4 months. Also that reverse split was a recipe to take out new lows.
