Eddie Bauer is in the early stages of a turnaround as the company seeks to re-focus its merchandise assortment towards the active outdoor lifestyle theme that the brand is known for. If successful, the company has the ability to produce more than $3 of cash earnings/share down the road. The recent results show signs of improvement but are somewhat masked by a sharp downturn in the women's apparel retail (much worse than most other subsectors of retail).

The combination of highly levered retailer, complicated financials, no-analyst coverage and limited investor communication, small-cap, and busted buyout are all themes that have worked against the stock up till now, but have created for very compelling upside scenarios.
