There seems to be more potential for recovery in the US, relative to Chile. Sebastian Pinera, the president seems to be like an American Silvio Berlusconni, equally flamboyant and probably too distracted by his business to drive the country to any level of meaningful economic outperformance. Besides, reliance on copper as one of the major exports for the country may prove to be the country's Achille's heel.

According to AEI, Chile has the highest economic freedom ranking in the region. That portends well for economic growth.

This ETF experienced a serious pullback since it peaked late in 2010. However, this only provided with an opportunity to increase the holdings of this Chilean superstar. There are a number of reason will I think this EFT will outperform the S&P 500. First, the Chilean economy is fundamentally strong, with a fiscally conservative government, and hawkish central bank. Second, Chile has primarily benefited from substantial increases in copper prices(Chile is largest exporter of copper). Now this is the main reason why I am extremely bullish on ECH: China( and other emerging economies) are growing like crazy, and there are consumer raw materials in vast quantities. Chile's exposure to Chinese growth will benefit the Chilean economy. As the Chilean economy continues to grow so will its other sectors(such as utilities, industrial, materials, and consumer staples)

ECH industry breakdown:

Utilities 22.23%
Industrials 19.98%
Materials 19.81%
Consumer Staples 13.64%
Financials 12.43%
Consumer Discretionary 8.11%
Telecommunication Services 2.68%
Information Technology 0.99%
S-T Securities 0.17%

You GOTTA feel late to this ETF...but there's nothing in the US returning this confidence AND return...let's see if it goes higher with our inflation/currency issues...

It's Chile. Free trade & I think that their real whack-jobs are behind them for a spell. & they have too much mistrust of their neighbours to listen to the Fidel wannabes of the region.

With almost 16% of holdings in Copec, I am outperforming this one BIG TIME! Understand...Copec doesn't just sell gas in Chile, they are a very well diversified company...Arauco wood being one of its subsidiaries, as well interests in the fishing industry. Abastible is another one if its companies, which sells natural gas/propane.
Other companies that this ishares holds is LAN, Banco Santander, and other leaders in the markets in Chlie.

After being to Chile several times, and headed there permanently, I know that the economy will continue to prosper vs US unless something political happens (not likely). Great ETF!

Chile economy is stunning; it is a commodity based and has low dependence on US. I believe this new ET will rock, definitely a good buy.
