Treasuries have to come down eventually. Still, it works great as a hedge.

Everyone knows interest rates have no where to go but up.

Long term treasury interest rates are near the end of a long term secular bull market. There is simply too much supply and too much potential for rising interest rates.

Break the budget by cutting taxes
Fix the budget by cutting education

That is not the recipe for long-term success. Education has been going downhill for decades. We still have some great universities, so we compensate somewhat by sucking in the best brains from around the world. But that only works if you have a healthy supply of schools that get international attention.

So that leaves progressively more "unskilled" labour -- construction: bubbled there, burst that
farming: Largely done by machines now. Perhaps the draconian immigration measures will make a few more grape picking jobs open up. But you have to convince the country-gone-city boys like me to move back.
And Manufacturing: Also largely done by machines in this country. The jobs that still require a real human aren't coming back until real wages here are depressed to the point where closing shop in China and building a new factory here looks like a deal. Quick Mr. Walker, bust those unions so we can get wages down to where America is competitive again! Sign me up for some 14 hour days while you're at it! And I don't want over time either -- time and a half, that is really hard to figger out with all those fractions and stuff.

And then the is that ever stronger smell of another oil war that we'll be needing to pay for.

If the 30-year Treasury outperforms the S&P 500 over the next five years, I'll eat my hat. (On second thought, if things really get that bad then eating a hat may be considered a luxury!)
