Equifax, Inc. (EFX)

CAPS Rating:
***

Collects, organizes and manages numerous types of credit, financial, public record, demographic and marketing information regarding individuals and businesses.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

Magic selection and a solid pick due to its dual dominance with Experian in the credit data market, let's see how well the little book does

The adoption of semantic web technology will give information providers (such as Equifax) new opportunities to leverage their information assets for profit.

This is a very important company in that it helps to monitor people's financial records and well-being for lifetimes. They are not going anywhere, and are a very important pieve of our personal economic picture, and I think they are valued attractively right now at this point.

With identity theft on the rise, their Credit Watch program is valuable insurance to protecting your credit score. They bill automatically each year and in my experience have been quick to contact their customers if an anomoly appears on your credit history. The service has been great and I have recommended the service to several friends who have signed up. I adhere to the investing theory of buying stocks in companies you use, like and recommend to others. A relatively low P/E coupled with a recent price dip. I am long on it.

Beat this Stock

Clicking "Beat this Stock!" will bring you to a company with a higher rating than the one you're currently viewing.

Even though CAPS shows only one- to five-star rankings, behind the scenes, all companies in CAPS have a distinct numerical ranking. In other words, there is a No. 1 stock in CAPS and a worst-ranked stock in CAPS. When you arrive at the top-ranked stock, clicking "Beat this Stock!" will cause the page to refresh.

That is, until there is a new No. 1 stock!
