Oversold, undervalued, this ETF will bounce back up!

European stabilization plan will keep the periphery from deflating, but the easy money policy will result in inflation for the core of Europe. This should cause German stocks to outperform.

Germany is home of many sound engineering companies selling at reasonable value.

Having very conservative banks, and no toxic assets doesn't matter much if you have no buyers for your manufactured products.

Again, another G7 country in trouble. Triple bottom breakdown at 28.

Germany is a fantastic European play - its economy can claim several large, influential industrial and chemical companies, it remains Europe's largest net exporter, the government will post a surplus for 2008, corporate taxes have been cut from 25% to 15%, and as EU reform and enlargement continues, Germany will keep the lion's share of the attention. The overall exposure to the sub-prime mortgage mess was lower than the exposure seen in the US and UK, and while the Euro is strong and personal rates of savings are high, consumption is expected to increase along with GDP in 2009. Buy and hold - while the American, Chinese and Indian exchanges continue to tank, Germany will hum along.

long EWG/Short EWU is basically a play on Uk weakness vs. Euro region (in the form of Germany)

Germany is awesome. The EU is kicking America's butt. This stock will easily stay above the SPY for at least six months, if not longer. Or as Beck once said, Sprechen sie Deutsche, baby?

A play on the declining dollar.

I have owned the stock for about two years and it has performed very well. I estimate 20% per year.

As the second largest economy in Europe and the fifth largest in the world, Germany occupies a pride of place among the investor community. The period following the IT burst in 2000 was particularly bad for the country, but things began to look up and by 2006 the economy was almost back on track. The stock market of the country responded positively to these developments with the premier stock index DAX breaching 7000 points mark first time after 2000.
ishares MSCI Germany Index Fund (EWG) invests in publicly traded securities in the German market, with composition of stocks aimed at capturing 85% of the total market capitalization. Know for its manufacturing capabilities, the fund looks to exploit it fully by investing about 63% of its assets in manufacturing sector and the rest in services sector. The investments are fairly diversified among 54 securities that make up the fund with not a single constituent company cornering more than 10% of total asset.
German economy grew by 2.7% in 2006, considered good for a developed country. The fund performed equally well during the time period with a 35.66% return reflecting the positive mood that was prevalent in the stock market. Approximately 50% of the assets in the fund are made up of multinationals like Siemens, Deutsche Telecom, Allianz, Deutsche Bank whose fortunes are tied to the booming Asian economy rather than to the domestic market. With the Asian economy expected to grow at the rate of 6% through 2007, the companies are looking at an increased revenue stream. On the domestic front too the manufacturing sector is estimated to wake up from the slumber with a modest growth rate of 1.5% in 2007, but it will be the Asian markets, which will be instrumental in pulling out the German economy out of its quagmire.
The equity market will absorb these factors in its stride and the DAX is expected to touch new highs by this year-end. The fund is thus expected to deliver yet another year of stunning performance.
