The future is not bright. F's major competitors have eliminated most of their debt, and forced the unions into better contract terms, that is going to be a major headwind for F.

I am interested to see what sales are like without cash for clunkers propping it up. Did they move Q4 sales into Q3?

Perhaps I don't understands Ford's business model, but isn't this company going to go bankrupt at some point? Look at their debt of 133 billion dollars. Even if they earn 10 billion a year for the next ten years they can't pay that off. Is this debt somehow financing debt that will be paid off as people make payments on their cars? Even so, as we know, the auto business these days is chancy at best--that is you might have a few good years of profitability followed by a few years of losses. The auto industry has almost become like the airline industry. If you are looking to buy and hold it is a horrible place to put your money.

Quite simply they sold everything they are going to sell with the Cars program. Game over.

This company has crippling liabilities. GM and Chrysler remain garbage, but they're now garbage with less debt. Am I the only person here that refuses to buy an American made car due to bad experiences... again... and again... and again?

Inb4 "Market perception lags change. American car quality has improved."

I've been hearing that slogan for over 100 years.

Post 'Cash for clunkers' pick. Government can't keep the demand up artificially. Plus, Toyota will play its home market more aggressively.

I think pride, patriotism, and wrong-headed thinking is keeping this stock price higher than the underlying business warrants. I think their pension liability alone will sink them, with the way the market has performed.

The Cash-4-Clunkers program pulled future buyers forward to attempt to stimulate this industry, but at the cost of business over the next year. I believe we'll see a downturn over the next 6 months across the board in Auto and it will continue until the real recovery begins.

Cash for Clunkers has run out of gas. I think for the short -term Ford will drop back to around $5.50. I still like Ford long-term. I sold my positions on F 8/26. I am awaiting for it to drop back to $5.75 before loading back up.

Though F may regain strength in 2010 and specially in 2011, for the moment it will still have to go througth many depressing months.

Potential earnigns do not support current share price. Based on $8.30/share, even if Ford made a $100 million profit in the next 12 months (they won't), the price would represent 320x earnings.

Everyone who got in in the $1 - $2 range should think about bailing out here. Depsite the nearly $5 billion in government aid for "environmental research" and the improved comparisons over really bad year-ago figures, Ford still has many of the same structural problems as the two bankrupt members of the former "Big Three." When national auto sales numbers resume their decline later this year, F won't be able to sustain their turnaround, and they will go down, maybe even joining GM and Chrysler in a Chapter 11 episode.
