In a zone from Mexico through Texas to Canada the wind map shows great predictability. It's always windy. Additionally that region of the US has very few back yards from which naysayers can lodge complaints. Nolan County Texas has 3,600 wind turbines and 16,000 residents. A transmission line (their third) has finally been approved by the folks over Dallas way. Texas is suffering a drought, big time, but the wind is blowing every week (24/7). The cotton farmers whose plantings never broke the soil surface in 2011, will sit back and watch those turbines spin while waiting for their water to come back--maybe next year. They'll invest some that crop insurance money in FAN cause they know a bargain when they see one, and they know too that nothing is going to stop that wind.

Nuc is out, solar and wind are in.

Energy needs will continue to grow at ever increasing rates. Imagine a Chinese middle class consumer market that will grow bigger than the US in less than a decade. Now imagine that same scenario for India within that same decade. Demand is accelerating much faster than supply, and I see nothing that will change this ratio in the future, outside a world war. Even then, energy will be traded at a premium.

good for IRA wind index

Solar is on hold till oil goes back to 100$, and the Chinese are dumping solar panels faster than tires or steal. That leaves wind for now!

WIND, WIND, WIND !!!!!!

ETF for wind

ETFs are the new tackelin' fuel of the everyday investor, and wind energy is a solid play during this administration's reign.

Own this in my IRA.
It may be a sleeper for awhile, next year or so perform with the market. Towards the second half of Obama's 1st term it should pick up some serious momentum and carry through his 2nd term. The guy is an ego maniac and he wants his legacy to include energy reform. Socialism is strengthening in the US. The govt will have a heavy hand in controlling energy policy. I'm long oil for the next 2-3 years. After that, the enormous taxes that are inevitable for big oil will be spoon fed to the mouths of Wind and Solar. companies.

Wind Energy is a high growth sector and could outperform solar stocks in the near future. I think that Alternative Energy will only become more popular as Oil Peak and Global Warming affect our energy supply choices. ETFs are a good way to add diversity while minimizing fees. So I'm snapping up a few Wind focused ETFs with high outperform ratings while they are near their 52 week lows and I'll ride them into our, hopefully much greener future!

Diverse wind energy. Long term logical green play.

Wind is the world's fastest growing energy supply, and the US - world's largest market as of 2008 - has extended for several years [quite the change, really] the PTC incentive. There is talk of making tax credit incentives refundable - essentially a check instead of a tax credit - which will make financing these project much easier - mucho growth.
This ETF captures a global array (most major manufacturers are foreign) of wind companies without requiring access and/or tinkering in foreign exchanges.
Recs
The index is a modified market capitalization weighted index of publicly traded companies throughout the world that are active in the wind energy industry based on analysis of the products and services offered by those companies. Gotta love the wind diversification

Government money being pumped into wind power, especially in Europe.

I just like the wind... less speculative than solar, wind is big in europe

Wind power presents bigger potential than solar. Just cheaper. There is a lot of wind out there. China has to do something to combat polution for their own sake.
