My disappointment that I couldn't invest in Gamesa and Vestas is over. They are the top two holdings in the fund. This is a great way to play all of the pure plays in wind that aren't NYSE available. I think this is going to be a huge winner in the long run. Wind and Solar are both favs of mine. We have to reduce our dependance on oil in the long run. We have to. I don't think people have fully comprehended what 2 billion Chinese and Indians moving to cities really means instead of living in rice paddies and shanties. There are 300 million Americans and they have been top energy consumers for 70 years. Ted Koppel said on Jon Stewart that only 300 million Chinese have become middle class and he says the other one billion are itching to get to that status and the Chinese government is going to build the infrastructure to make it happen. That spells energy consumption and it spells energy alternatives. It means a commodity run and it means inflation. It's the sad consequence. So get out of the way of those companies who use the commodities and get in the way of the companies who profit from the commodities rise.

Definitely like the idea of a wind ETF. Seems pretty good and has the potential for reasonable gains. I think Rudolph's assessment is pretty dead on.

Wind is one of the fastest growing renewable energy sectors globally, and much less speculative than solar (there are many profitable companies trading with almost reasonable P/E values). When I started investing in wind two years ago I had to pay large fees to invest on European exchanges in order to get the leading companies such as Gamesa or Vestas. FAN offers exposure to these and other international companies, plus a range of wind-related companies in the US from micro-cap BWEN to giganormous GE. FAN keeps the behemoths like GE or BP to a small percentage of the fund, allowing for more pure-play and also more growth potential. Holdings are here http://www.ftportfolios.com/Retail/etf/ETFholdings.aspx?Ticker=FAN
I expect volatility from this fund, but also growth. I bought some FAN to shore up my investments in wind, which have been leading my portfolio so far but are limited to only a few companies.
