Mortgage banking is a great business to be in right now. Low rates and bottoming housing prices have created volume. The Fed, mREIT's and investors are creating more demand than supply (particularly for conforming). The spread between retail (what the loan is originated for) and wholesale (what the loan is sold to investors for) has doubled. Originators (FBC, IMH, BNCC, PMHC, etc.) should continue to do well.

It will be acquired within 3 years at $2+.

Flagstar has a lot of potential to move up. If it's really selling off a few of its retail locations to consolidate and focus, then we're talking about a company that's got its eye on the prize. Also, they were the only lenders out there still originating A+ papers and that will pay off down the line.
Recs
It is currently oversold due to a poor (and understandable) market reaction to its 2nd quarter results.
Recs
FBC is trading well under book value of $2.20 per share. They are making good progress at clearing bad loans off their books, and the default rate on existing loans is below the industry average. FBC will likely report a profit for the 2nd or 3rd quarters this year, which should give the stock a nice pop toward analyst targets around $1.80 per share.

have had to sell new shares due to capital issues and had a reverse stock split that drove their price down. But flagstar has been decreasing costs for the last few quarters, and is expected to become profitable again. I believe revenue will pick up starting next quarter. Whenever this bank becomes profitable (and it will) it is going to skyrocket!!

doing banking right

Looks like a solid bank in the US. Solid is a relative term in that this bank appears to have survived the banking closure blitz that the financial institutions of America have been under since the US entered this lengthy "depression"/recession. From the looks of it, this bank is simply waiting out the financial panic and should climb as the economy does. Risky play, but looks like more upward movement available than downward.

Great fundamental value. Cleaning up tier-one ratios and raising cash to help liquidity. Great stock when banks come back after the Obamanation is done.

I believe this is a great time to get into FBC as a speculative trade. Although the massive issuance of common stock scared the bejeesus out of many, there has been recent 200k insider buy trading by a director (11/3), and the stock is rebounding from an all-time low. Just because pre-issuance stockholders' shares are massively diluted, does not justify the ensuing panic, especially given the positive notes from the recent quarter. I am setting a near-term target of $2/share.

It has traded down over 40% in a week...trades at .4 book value. This stock is at least a $4.15 stock...where it priced two weeks ago. Its oversold. Greenlight came into it, and so did I.
