*****

Through its subsidiaries, the Company engages in the exploration, mining, and production of copper, gold, and silver. It also smelts and refines copper concentrates, and markets the refined copper products.

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other players to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

For Freeport the numbers speak for themselves:

Trailing P/E = 12.5
Forward P/E = 9
PEG = 0.20
Next 5 Year Growth Estimate (per year) = 50.75%

These numbers show that when one buys FCX one is not only buying a value company but also a growth one as well. A forward P/E for 12 is cheap for any compa...More

Here on FCX, I think materials are extended given the slowing-growth environment. Even the phrase "soft landing" still includes the word "landing". Since I've decided to start fading select five-star, large-constituency stocks, that's enough for me. A game-theoretic experiment, I guess.

Can easily double in price and still be considered a value. I say this because it mines enough gold to be trading at a multiple with other gold producers like Yamana, Barrick, etc.

Metals, especially Copper, gold, SILVER, and Platinum will do well over the next year or so especially.

Gotta love their growth. A very well managed company!

I'm hedging my bets on all the gold and mineral producers as strong performers in the next couple of years for the following reasons: 1) the economy is in shambles due to the real estate mess, 2) federal attempts at controlling the downward trend through lowering of bank interest rates leads to inflation which further, 3) drives down the value of the dollar, 4) increasing old prices predicted to top at $200 a barrel coupled with a weak dollar will drive the economy closer to recession, and finally 5) investors flock to commodities such as precious metals (i.e., gold, platinum, etc) when the market is influx and the dollar is weak. I predict though that Thompson Creek and Freeport-McMoRan Copper makes the strongest gains.

Looking at a weekly chart of FCX, it looks like we have a cup and handle forming. A daily chart clearly shows the head and shoulders bottom, and an uptrend now. Buy FCX around its 50 day support, or with a 123.30 buy point.
