The company has invested in a producer of high quality bannanas in Costa Rica. Firm has strong working capital and solvency. Del Monte has dropped from a high of 40 back in July all the way to the 22 level that it closed at on Friday on concerns about a recent acquisition, low profit margins, and general market weakness. This is another one of those CHEAP stocks that are floating around out there right now. Del Monte is selling for peanuts (I know it’s bad, but I couldn’t think of any fruit analogies :) ). The company has a solid brand name, management that has delivered industry-leading returns, and it trades at only 10 times its estimated earnings for this year. The most attractive stat about this stock is that it trades for right around book value. We’re not talking one of those hocus pocus fictional book values that so many companies out there report either. Del Monte has real assets on its books at reasonable valuations, like farmland reported at cost, ships, etc… Deej Report this Post Replies: 0 \| Reply \| Permalink Oops! Recs 0 (FDP) morgan628 (< 20) Submitted: 7/29/08 12:38 PM : Start Price: $21.25 FDP Score: -3.21 The stock is now oversold. FDP has very promising prospects in the years ahead and management is taking the steps needed for continued growth. The company recently purchased Caribana, a banana and gold pinepple producer in Costa Rica. This acquisition should reduce warehousing and distribution expenses for both companies and FDP expects to see a positive impact within 1 year. The Jordan meat and poultry division has recieved good responses from FDP's foodservice clients to a new product line and now FDP intends to offer that line to retail customers. Imported fresh fruit and vegetables to China and India appear to be prospective new markets for FDP as personal wealth in those countries grows.
