Insurance and annuities...a license to steal. Which makes for a great investing opportunity. FFG is a 5 bagger since 1996 and a double since 2001. Since 2001 that's a 12% compounded return. And while the dividend yield is currently just 1.2%, the dividend has grown 350% since 1996 although the dividend growth has slowed in recent years. While this isn't my top pick, it's certainly worth having in the portfolio. Safe, solid investment especially as the economy muddles through the housing slow-down, mortgage issues, and headed into an election year. I can live with a 13.2% return, just a meager 10% better than inflation, while the economy rights itself.

Good Luck.

It's really not fair that I can pick small caps like this against the S+P 500. This stock might not knock anyone's socks off, but look at the 10 year compound returns. They have a great brand in the Farm Bureau line, and are growing the EquiTrust line as well. They're just a solid company in a simple but highly profitable business. Stick this in the back of your portfolio and check it in 5 years.
