FPL Group, Inc. (FPL)

CAPS Rating:
*****

The Company is a provider of electricity-related services. Its principal subsidiary, FPL, is a rate-regulated utility engaged primarily in the generation, transmission, distribution and sale of electric energy.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other players to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

I really like FPL for several reasons. First, they are a conservative energy play in a state which the boomers love to retire. Second, it pays a nice dividend yield of 2.6%. Third, they have some pretty innovative programs going on, especially for a power company. For instance, I read a few mont...More

FPL is far ahead of most utilities in incorporating renewable energy into its business. As fossil fuels are depleted and pressure to global climate disruption mounts, demand for renewable energy will continue to increase, while the cost of supplying it, ceteris parabis, will decrease.

Sound company and a leader in an up-and-coming market segment = winner.

Regulated power in Florida, and unregulated energy everywhere else. FPL has out performed many other T&D Utilities and is up there with other energy producers.

Awesome company with a great base and good heart. If solar turns out to be a big growth market, so be it. I think this company is fine either way.
