The US Federal Government today in announcing the suspension of lending to coal-fired electricity plants that "the uncertainties of climate change and rising costs make the loans too risky".

I generally stay away from valuation shorts, but I just can't resist, at more than 100x 2008 projected earnings.

Trading at outrageous PE and PEG multiples, FSLR will fall hard and far when the momentum fades. I've been surprised to see it rally to new highs in 08 but I think the top is near. Their product is dependent on an element (tellerium) that is rare, which could at some point cause supply disruptions.

Solar is a viable alternative energy source unlike ethanol. FSLR is the class act.

I know that a correction is coming sometime, but in the short term there is still some profits to be made here. Solar is going to boom in the coming years and this company is at the forefront of that. Another way to jump on the solar band wagon in a slightly less inflated purchase through the supplier of first solar, which is a company called 5N plus (TSX: VNP). They are the ones supplying the highly sought after mineral that FSLR pannels require.

Huge valuation, they don't sound like they're very forthcoming with information, dependent on a very scarce raw material, and ready for a fall. Drop by 20% by end of summer!

I'm taking an aggregate of all the alternative energy producers and developer to do well.

I think there will be significant pressures to develop alternative energies with the way "oil politics' has gone. Regardless of whether a republican or democrat ends up in office the coming term, I think we'll see significant introduction of federal policies directed at promoting and cultivating alternative fuel sources. Companies like SOL and FSLR will stand to gain from this change.
