Great company with the most advanced solar cell technology available, but its still not going to be enough to compete with fossil fuels anytime soon. Renewable energy is a luxury item in a down economy, fueled by government subsidies which are easily scrapped when faced with potential cuts in education, infrastructure spending, etc. I'm sure this will be one of the first things on the chopping block in California.

from fools
"Suntech Power, Energy Conversion Devices, and First Solar are among the companies whose investors have found that without the helping hand of government, they simply can't compete with other forms of energy. With solar also facing a supply glut of polysilicon, wafers, and PV panels, it may just take industry consolidation to sort out the problems."

Cost advantage of thin-film has been erased by the drop of polysilicon, putting FSLR in a commodity pricing environment against the PV makers.

This stock is so shady that I can no longer trust their ability to assess their own finances. Just to meet the earnings expectations they set up seperate entities and basically bought their own product to put it on their balance sheet. This is the same principle what Enron did only not to the extent.

Solar will be huge. When it happens and who the big players are will be determined by time. For the next year or so I think all solars will suffer. However, if this climate bill passes the Senate next year, look for all solars to rise off speculation.

Stock is priced to perfection. Only a fool would believe that earnings will remain steady at these levels for 20 years without interruption.

Also, Waltons selling shows the true story long term.

A high valuation should usually never be assessed based on a company that's barely been operating for 2 years as a public company.

The Infatuation period of green stocks is over. Now with people being as emotionless as they've ever been when buying a stock they will see that this stock is not woth this much and it won't get back to the 300's unless serious inflation grips our nation. If country comes back from this economic hell then it may be a good chice again.

FSLR enjoyed a run up thanks to a tax issue that juiced their numbers. With fuel low and demand down, FSLR will fall. Short it.

Poly-Si prices are going down the drain, eroding First Solar's cost advantage in thin film. Oil prices are down too, and I have real reservations about how much of a boost Mr. Obama's stimulus plan will give to U.S. sales. Meanwhile, the Italian and German solar markets look weak, and the Spanish market has all but vanished. Prospects look dim for First Solar.

Oil is cheap. Americans think the problem is solved. Solar will be forgotten in the short term. Too bad.

Once oil gets close to hitting the century mark...this stock will blow the roof off. Will change my call then.

The stock is overpriced in my opinion, although I believe both are going down, FSLR will go down quicker and by a bigger percentage.

I believe that margins will get squeezed because new business will be hard to get. Corporations are reducing all expenditures and with a continuing downward spiral in earnings what companies will invest in this high cost alternative energy? New homes that might have been built with solar? What homebuilder is even building!
