Gannett Co., Inc. (GCI)

CAPS Rating:
**

An international news and information company operating primarily in the United States and the United Kingdom.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

Gannett (GCI)

Gannett owns a number of newspapers and television stations in the United States and the United Kingdom, including the major national publication USA Today. GCI has been pounded by investors, dropping 54% so far this year after sliding 35% in 2007. I know that everyone hat...More

Picking the 10 stocks in the S&P 500 with the highest dividend yield every year. This is the second year, GCI is 7th with 9.40%.

Paper market is dead. This one will tank faster than the market during this economic collapse we are witnessing.

This company is being pounded by short sellers like all newspaper stocks. But Gannett has strong brands, has TV media exposure and has strong cash flow which will enable it to pay it debt easily and I see no risk of bankrupcy. Pays a excellent dividend which I believe is safe. I think GCI can double once Wall St. wakes up on this stock.

Declining Revenues, product is obsolete. This will die a slow and painful death.

Dead tree industry with only a few TV properties. No profits.
