GD has exposure to two hot sectors of the market aerospace and defense. Aerospace is a great play for the company but their defense contracts and the ever-changing battlescape will drive growth for this company.

A zero-dd, Broker-A special. Besides, I don't like defense right now, since I don't see a lot more on the horizon to bump spending, while there might be some risks of eventual Pentagon retrenchment.

Several points: one of a small group of contractor that share monopoly position as military supplier in an era of high spending; high margin products, sound management and gov. relations, and a kicker-- high growth, high margin area in business class aviation.

a pitch, and a critic from a fellow pacifist european fool...
This company is disgusting, it makes money from making equipments that exterminate human lives.
The american international friendly government always solves things the polite way, bomb them baby!!! General Dynamics will always outperform in the long term because americans always need to do war and put their noses in everyobody's business. Unfortunally for the american government lives of young americans become more and more valuable, and so it's better to invest in belic equipment instead.
Go to war to get Oil... burn mother....err, burn....

As the economy of the nation in which GD operates recovers from its current recession, I believe that GD's aerospace division will benefit. I believe that our involvement in the Middle East isn't close to termination, so GD's largest client (US government) will continue to have much business for GD to execute profitably.

General Dynamics (GD) is one of the largest aerospace and defense companies in the United States. It operates through four key divisions: Aerospace, Information Systems & Technology, Combat Systems and Marine Systems. The aerospace segment manufactures the Gulfstream line of business jets primarily for commercial customers, while the other three segments develop and manufacture communication systems, armored vehicles, munitions, naval ships and submarines primarily for the U.S. military. The company had $19.2 billion in revenues in 2004, approximately 70% of which came from the U.S. government. General Dynamics serves two major market segments: defense and commercial aerospace. Nearly 90% of almost 280 analysts rate this stock as buy or hold, while only 10% suggest selling it. Another reason to favor General Dynamics is its fast-growing corporate-jet business, Gulfstream. With more and more corporations seeking to shield their executives from the hassles of flying commercial, Gulfstream now boasts an order backlog of $6.5 billion. GD announced a 2?for?1 stock split and a 15% dividend increase in early 2006. General Dynamics has a relatively strong management team in place. Led by CEO Nicholas Chabraja, GD has far outpaced its peers in the transformation from bloated legacy defense giant to lean, flexible, and extremely cost-conscious firm. General Dynamics shares are subject to a number of risks, including cyclical downturns in the business jet market, declines in defense spending, and the loss of major defense contracts to competitors.

This awesome company has figured out how to buy up the competition and has a hand in everything. Their aerospace division builds the world's most luxurious private jet "Gulfstream" and is a cash cow for them. Never hurts to have a defense stock in your pocket

Politics plays a big part in my caution of the time frame. But their motto is "cash is king" so over the long haul there will be good times.
